Welcome

Welcome to the hub of our English 97 class. This is ourspace for our voices in a zone that's part personal and part academic. Each person's blogs will reflect his or her unique voice and point of view.

This quarter, we'll be writing on a book we'll all be reading together: Sherman Alexie's "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian." We'll be writing about quotes we find intriguing, worthy of discussion, and/or confusing and we'll also be writing personal experiences that mirror the main character's. Throughout this quarter, we will be writing our thinking and our lives in these blogs.

Let me introduce our space to you. On the sidebar are the ghosts of English 97. If you ever need some inspiration, take a look at the blogs from previous students. There are also links to the current members of this class. If you click on their name, you'll find their blog. So as you can see, this class blog is really a hub for all of us.

Alexie writes, "If one reads enough books one has a fighting chance. Or better, one's chances of survival increase with each book one reads" so here's our fighting chance. We're excited about what's ahead! Come back often and leave us a comment! Stay tuned!

I really did enjoy all of this book.It addresses the feelings of being different and challenged right iff the bat. With a medical disabilty by all standards ,except from the one who has the problem.Befriended and i guess sopmewhat betrayed til the end is Rowdy,Shermans friend and protector.Until atleast the point comes that Rowdy feels he has been betrayed and abandoned by Sherman. However it is no surprise that it would be more of jealousy than anything else, because Sherman had the desire and hunger to go search for knowledge.Wjhich in turn will and would be Shermans greatest weapon to use for his escape from the reservation and it cancerous lifeastyles tha just seem to devour and lay to waste man kind.Faced with the senseless deaths of his Grandmother and the death of his fathres friend Eugene,Sherman seems to accept it within stride, yet i seem to sense that it is a tradgedy that he really never seems to open up on or deasl with.Which brings me to another idea and that is what happen when people just keep putting away tragedies and sorrow, yet never really deal with them? This book is really something to me,i feel through this book we learn that knowledge is a great tool, and in order to overcome great adversity, one really must cope with it and those who are willing to adapt they are limitless in what they can overcome!
